Prompts for Teens & Adults

Ice breaker-- What made you take this journal? In other words, why have you decided to write and what do you hope to accomplish?

 

1. What is something you want to do but haven’t done yet? What is something you don’t do a lot that you wish you could partake in more often?

What’s holding you back? What can you do to achieve this dream?

 

2. Who made you smile today? How can you pass it along?

 

3. Challenge: Go outside today without any distractions (technology, music, etc) Just be in nature. Record your thoughts and findings afterwards.

 

4. What is the biggest stressor in your life? How might you manage this?

 

5. What’s something that made you proud of yourself today? If nothing, what is something that will make you proud?

 

6. Who do you hold dear to your heart and why? Challenge: Tell your loved ones what you wrote about them.

 

7. Let your creative juices flow today and draw something on this page. Here are some ideas if you’re stuck:

Animals (bird, bunny, cat, frog, butterfly)

Family (friends, pets, grandparents)

Fantasy (fairy, magic, castle)

Landscapes (mountains, desert, park, city)

Spooky (ghost, alien, clown, haunted house)

 

8. How do you cope with anxiety/worry/depression/stress? Is this a healthy coping mechanism? What else can you try?

 

9. What are 5+ things you like about yourself?

 

10. What is your favorite childhood memory? Why do you think you remember this so clearly?

 

11. What are some bad habits you have? How can you work on these?

 

12. What are some good habits you have? How do these help you?

 

13. What are you grateful for?

 

14. What do you feel guilty about? Why do you think this weighs on you? Is it right to be so hard on yourself?

 

15. What’s your favorite quote and what does it mean to you?

 

16. Look through your photos and choose a few to write about. What was special about that day? Who were you with?

 

17. How is quarantine affecting your mood? What could make these difficult times a bit easier?

 

18. How do you feel connected to nature? Why do you think nature is important?

 

20. What’s an activity you haven’t partaken in since you were little? Why’d you stop? Challenge: Go do this activity!

 

21. A moment in life you’ll never forget?

 

22. What’s something in nature that you take for granted?

23. How can you grow and change as a person? What do you need to do better at?

24. What is your favorite part of each season? Why?

​

25. What positive affirmation can you tell yourself when you're struggling?

Challenge: Write it down and place the paper somewhere you look each day. Repeat it every morning.

26. What goals have you recently set for yourself? Have you met any of them? What's keeping you from achieving them?

27. Step outside in nature. Name 5+ things you hear, see or smell.

28. If you have a backyard or live close to a park or other green space, take a moment to appreciate your proximity to nature. How might other communities be struggling with this? How can you recognize your privilege and continue to respect the green space around you?

5. Who made you smile today? What can you do to make someone else smile?

 

6. Go outside and play or explore! Write down what you did and how it made you feel.

 

7. What is something that makes you feel worried? What do you think can help you feel less worried?

 

8. What is something you did that made you feel proud today?

 

9. Who do you love? (family, friends, pets) Why do you love them?

 

10. Draw a picture! Here are some ideas:

16. Ask someone in your family for a photograph. What do you remember about this photo? (Who were you with? What did you do?)

 

17. If you do not have a photo, write about your best day ever.
